Description

According to IQAir, between September 9 and 11 of 2024, São Paulo experienced the worst air quality in the world, driven by a combination of widespread wildfires in Brazil and the city's already significant pollution levels. The fires, exacerbated by the aggressive actions of large farming companies that exploit the land through deforestation and slash-and-burn practices, have released massive amounts of particulate matter into the atmosphere. This environmental degradation has worsened São Paulo's air quality, posing serious health risks to its residents. Is this, finally, the end of the world? Vertical video. 1836x4080. 2m05s. Made with a custom-built pixel sorting algorithm, on Processing 4, sourced from a personal photograph and a sample from a video recording of the Butoh performance "The False David", by Imre Thormann. Soundtrack composed with digital synthesizers and home recordings. Finished with video editing software. A Pro Res version of this video is available to collectors, upon request, up until the end of the year 2024.
