Each graffiti style element within this series represents an aspect of the artists life. It’s not random graffiti, it all has meaning and significance within the context of each piece. The title of each artwork is a quote by the artist. Jean-Michel Basquiat (b. Dec 1960 – d. Aug 1988) Basquiat was an American artist who rose to success during the 1980s as part of the Neo-expressionism movement. His art was often political and focused on dichotomies such as wealth vs poverty and integration vs segregation. His art continues to inspire and speak to the masses about inequalities within society. He died in 1988 at the age of 27 from a heroin overdose after struggling to beat his addiction.
