Every kid that was outside skateboarding or riding their bike to play with their friends 12 blocks away would recognize the simple shapes consisting of oblong triangles, circles, squares and squiggles displayed in color sets stolen from a mix of Miami's art deco and the emergence of neon in the Las Vegas desert that we kids all thought would blanket the shopping malls and streets of the world, but never really made it out of the arcades. A dream of Robert Zemeckis portrayed to the youth in the film Back to the Future 2 alongside a promotion with pizza hut selling sunglasses from the movie for 1.99$ that would become a cultural symbol of the ‘80s. As a child who ran around the block until the street lights came on wearing my 1.99$ Solar Shades, Iteration’s original piece immediately struck a chord with me. Now grown up Willy and Bits upon first gaze thought “WOW, that would be super cool to see our call letters WX8BK in the middle”. And thus the beginnings of a collab started to form. An idea that had been kicking around in Willy’s head for some time but it needed a spark to get it off the ground. This piece by Iteration, an artist whose style embodies the future we were promised in the ‘80s mixed closer to the desolate future we've actually been given, includes works of art like pastel stairways to nowhere, colorful computers that sit on desks unused due to their planned obsolescence and other nostalgic throwbacks is that spark and thus the 1st in a series of WX8BK inspired artworks from guest of the Night Train broadcast.
