Description

This series consists of staged photographs I took in my former studio, a warehouse where I lived and worked. The protagonist of the photos is a fragmented body I created from the molds of the sculpture “Ballerina” (2009). The idea for this series emerged in 2007 while I was waiting for the acrylic boxes I had ordered to be completed. For almost a month, the body parts of the Ballerina lay on the bed during the day, and at night, when I occupied the bed, the body was moved to the sofa. In these comings and goings, very curious and suggestive poses emerged. During this period, I captured some images with a low-resolution digital camera and archived them. Seven years later, I felt encouraged to repeat the experience with high-quality photographs using this old material as a reference. The title of each of the seven photographs in the series was inspired by the first line of the poem “Tenta-me de novo” by Hilda Hilst: “For what reason would you want my soul in your bed?”—which became the title of the first photograph. The following photos received titles that are variations of this first line, resembling an internal monologue of incoherent questions and answers: “Would you want my soul?”, “Because in my bed there is no soul at all”, “In your bed or in my soul?”, “What if there is no more soul?”, “And I ask: why?”, “My soul under the bed.”
