Description

This collection narrates the story of war—not the war itself, but our confrontation with the phenomenon of war and the role media plays in shaping our understanding of it. We all know how media conceals truths about global events and presents its version of the narrative. This piece, part of the larger War series, alongside the collection’s main focus on media’s role in defining our perceptions of war, highlights the objective use of women in war propaganda. Looking at posters from World War I and II, it becomes clear that war is treated as a marketable product, and like any other product needing promotion, it uses women in its advertising. In my view, beyond the attempt to beautify the ugly face of war, there is a deeper root to this phenomenon. If we accept that war has always been a part of the masculine world, then this practice reflects a modern version of the age-old promise of claiming women as rewards in war—a disturbing Consistency throughout history.
