This shot was taken in the Summer of 2021, in the midst of one of the longest COVID lock-downs in the world, Australia, and for any city in the world, Melbourne. We were locked down to a 5km radius of our home, but rather than feeling like a caged animal, each day I would walk the extent of my 5kms and then back again. Along the banks of the Yarra River, deserted of people, cars, boats, trams, even cyclists, I was able to accept solitude rather than fight it. I basked in the heat of the summer sun, calmed by the tranquil waters. Waiting out our enforced solitude. Often asking myself ‘which way is up’?
