Encoded entirely as a standalone HTML artifact, the piece requires the viewer's direct participation: The Biometric Witness (Facial Recognition): Through your webcam (processed 100% privately and locally using a FaceMesh neural network), the algorithm detects your presence. Upon finding you, the system performs a random and honest match with one of the 102 lives in the archive. The Veil and the Encounter: The screen goes dark. The message "their memory enters the room" appears alongside the dates of their existence. You come face to face with their story, their portrait (or their identifying symbol), and the context of their absence. A button allows you to declare: "I am a witness to this life." Generative Requiem: A custom-programmed audio synthesis engine (Web Audio API) envelops the experience. It generates a deep, melancholic, industrial soundscape in real time—a mournful chorus of sine and triangle waves in D minor—that subtly reacts to your face approaching the screen. When an encounter occurs, a solemn metallic clang, similar to a distant church bell, sounds. Historical Archive and Living Data: The piece includes an explorable timeline to navigate the vastness of the entire archive, accompanied by a statistical monitor that projects real data on the current global state of LGBTQ+ human rights.
