Description

Have you ever wondered about the versions of your life that almost happened? The city you nearly moved to. The person you almost stayed with. The message you never sent. The career you once imagined. The version of yourself that existed so clearly in your mind, until life quietly moved in another direction. For a long time, I thought those possibilities simply disappeared once a choice was made. As if every road not taken closed behind me and stopped existing. But I don’t think that anymore. Some of those lives remain in strange little ways. The artist I might have been still appears in the things I notice. The places I never lived still make me curious when I see them. People I almost built futures with sometimes return through a song, a smell, or an ordinary moment that suddenly carries more weight than it should. Maybe the lives we do not choose are not completely lost. Maybe they leave traces. A different future becomes a preference. An abandoned dream becomes a habit. Someone we once imagined growing old beside teaches us something about the love we eventually look for elsewhere. And perhaps that is why certain possibilities can still feel familiar years later. Not because we chose incorrectly. Not because the life we have is missing something. But because being human means being able to imagine more lives than we could ever possibly live. Every decision gives shape to one reality while quietly releasing countless others. Some leave immediately. Some remain close for years. And some find tiny ways of entering the life that actually happened. I used to think the lives I never chose had disappeared. Then I began noticing all the small ways they had followed me here.
