*Elefante* builds on my previous long-form work and pushes it to incorporate multiple remixed canvases using a single photograph of a giant Yucca (Latin name - Yucca elephantipes) as a starting point.

The project blends elements of Brutalism, Concrete art, and collage to create abstract displays of coloured forms and photography, some reminiscent of architecture, some paper cut-outs.

I aimed for the pieces to ‘scan’ well from a distance or at smaller sizes, but also to have a more 'material' quality than some of my prior work. I wanted texture without skeuomorphism.

Divisions by Michael Connolly

Elementals is inspired by physical printmaking techniques and early Bauhaus principles. It starts with a few basic coloured shapes and arranges them in varying frequencies, sizes, and positions based on a unique transaction hash. Multiple overlaid variable grids allow for myriad layouts and opportunities for colour interaction. The goal is to create pieces that feel both intentional in composition and part of the same family.

Depot WIP 

Abstracted imagined vignettes of souless delivery depots.

Depot started out as a tool for me to quickly iterate potential layouts for (as yet unrealised) hard edge paintings. Each part easily divisible / scalable to allow for accurate transfer to canvas / board / etc. 

I started to see the hulking silhouettes of giant fulfilment centres in some of the shapes that were emerging and leaned into it. A few layers of abstraction later and here we are.
