In his old office that had been unused for a decade, my father sits and inspects thousands of documents, deciding what to keep and what to recycle.

His plain faced and serious look wasn't what I had set out to capture when setting up for this portrait. The idea was to capture an image of my father wearing one of his suits from the 80's in front of his director's desk, looking like a boss. I still took those pictures but this particular image taken as a test-shot was a clear stand out.

Chemohawk

Chemohawk

My little brother, Jaime, went through chemotherapy at the end of 2013 after he was diagnosed with Hodgkin's lymphoma. It didn't take long for his hair to thin and begin to fall out, but he decided to make the most of a bad situation and have his hair cut into a mohawk. Surrounded by family at Christmas time in Sydney, our cousin-in-law, Eric, got the clippers out and worked his hairdressing magic.

This image portrays Jaime's strength and resolve during his battle while he was suffering the harsh effects of chemotherapy on his body.

Although he was on a university exchange in New York when he got the news of the cancer, he flew back to Adelaide where he continued to study remotely. He managed to ace his exams, and when uni started again the next year - after he had beaten cancer, he got straight back into it without missing a step.

Fast forward to 2022; Jaime is a Doctoral Researcher in Wind Farm Control Optimisation based on Multi-fidelity Wind Farm modelling at DTU Wind Energy in Denmark.

40% of the primary sales of this edition will be donated to a charity supporting cancer research and 10% will go back into the NFT community to support artists.

It’s in the eye of the beholder, they say. It started off as a wall with panels in various shades of blue, you know, fairly boring… but I had other ideas. I was going through a phase of experimenting in photoshop with duplicating then rotating and flipping images to interact with itself to create patterns and movement. I decided that for this one I would not use just one image; I’d use many images of the same wall to create a new art work.

The Darling Harbour Woodward Water Feature, otherwise known as the Spiral Fountain is a water feature near the Sydney Convention Centre. This photographic artwork was one of the first studies I undertook utilising a singe image multiple times to alter the visual aesthetic and the viewer experience whilst preserving the original photograph.

When I made this piece, I was fascinated at how a single repeated image can interact with itself in such a way that it completely transforms both the visual aesthetic and the feeling it gives the viewer. By duplicating, twisting, flipping and overlaying a once mundane, every day scene, it changes into something more, yet the base image is almost completely unidentifiable.

For me, this piece exudes something sinister. Perhaps a vampiric vortex that you are drawn to but you know you must stay away from; stare at it for too long and you may get sucked in.

The artwork will evoke an emotion, a feeling or a meaning unique to each individual viewer.

Khmer – Doorways

Life is fleeting; we exist only for a brief moment in time.

I see parallels between the transient nature of civilisations and the transient nature of our own lives.

Just as ancient temples and cities crumble over time, so do our bodies and minds.
