Cole Sternberg creates environmental paintings where nature collaborates.

Paintings are left in the rain or pulled through the ocean. The resulting patterns are poignant and visceral.

This generative art series evolves directly from Cole's environmental works.

The computer plays the environment's role, taking clean colorful images and washing, eroding, and pixelating them to achieve organic-looking results.

Starting patterns were drawn from the patterns that seawater, wind, and rain once left on physical paintings.

These patterns become brushes, sometimes mirrored as in #44 (gestalt frequency: sunrise reflection),

Scales

Scales by Anna Judd

Exploring the concepts of chaos, fungibility and the fractal nature of abstract paint layers dragged onto canvas, a scale is an individual artwork yet an equal microcosm of a greater work.

Created by subdividing canvasses into individual parcels, Scales democratize ownership of Anna's work across many collectors.

With a new drop of 500-1000 pieces scheduled for release every month, a total of 10,000 scales will be minted. Collect 4 in a row (across or down) to be admitted into the Royalty Club, where members divide up a pool of 5% royalties on the entire collection.

Windwoven

Windwoven #7

If winds were fibers, what would they weave?

Windwoven began as an idea to simulate smoke and the winding paths it follows. The smoke coalesced into strands of fiber and colorful yarn. Then it swirled into strange and organic forms. Some look like blankets unraveling, or storybook creatures felted from wool.

If you look close, they are all fuzzy and soft and begging to be touched.

As this project developed I researched fiber arts, an artistic tradition with a rich history. I spoke with artists and friends who knit, weave, felt wool, and raise Alpacas and sheep. Windwoven doesn't try to simulate weaving, but the project is grounded in the fiber arts world. Many palettes are drawn from yarn and wool roving colors and from shades of Alpaca fur. The color blending mimics the dynamic colors that can be achieved when carding dyed wool.

Of course, most of the outputs could only be made with code, pushing fiber-like artwork into new realms.
