It was mid-April of 2022, when I was going through a period of high-impact situations involving both work and family. For more than a week I was under continuous and enormous emotional stress as things kept changing rapidly. Though I tried to maintain my composure, there came a point in time one late afternoon when my resilience was shattered.

When nothing seems to work and a sense of having lost it all prevails, we tend to look for some source of inspiration to weather the storm raging inside us. 

So, I took a break and went to hills at the Altamont Pass, just a few miles from my office, to be amidst elements of nature. Sitting alone silently and fighting my emotional upswings, 15-20 minutes went by when I noticed the wind starting to pick up, clouds zooming in, and turbulent scenes starting to unfold in front of my eyes. It was as if the nature was creating a canvas mimicking and reflecting my emotional state.

The rapid movement of clouds were so dramatic that the photographer inside me instinctively opened the bag and set up camera gear. For the next couple of minutes rest everything happened involuntarily. In an automated way I captured a number of frames, one of them being The CHURN. In less than 5 minutes the whole scene folded back and serenity & calmness prevailed. The threatening clouds vanished as fast as they had come in.

These 40 minutes that I spent at the hill, nature came to my rescue and showed me the way forward to contemplate and deal with challenging situation that I was faced with. It showed me that after every storm comes a clear sky. AND, when I left the hills that evening, I was calmer and a stronger person.

Inside the Louvre Museum in Abu Dhabi, UAE, there is a section where the light from the roof falls on the ground due to the holes provided in the ceiling. I realized there is a good frame here and waited for the right characters to walk in and that when the man behind was looking towards the light and showing some action and to balance the frame the man with the red shirt walked into the frame. I like the popping red in the frame and the half lit face of the man adding mystery to it.

When walking on the streets I am not sure what surprises lies in front of me. But then I anticipate and wait and watch and when looking beyond the ordinary, I come across such strangeness that makes me stop and wonder what is going on there. The picture looks so confusing that it asks more questions than coming to one conclusion.

Stranger Things

A walk on the roads through the dense forest of Kerala is an experience and so meditative. The disconnect from our busy life and merging with nature, listening to the sounds of the nature calms your mind. It is said that looking at green makes your eyes relaxing. Photographing this moment is special to me.

A Walk to Remember

The mountains of the Northern Emirates, especially the ones bordering with Oman is so beautiful. Out of which , the mountains of Jebel Jais is the famous tourist spot. During weekends, this place is crowded with people from neighbouring districts to enjoy the weather and their day in this beautiful and scenic location.

On top of the world

During my early morning wandering in search of finding moments near my home, I came across a bridge and saw these fishermen going for their early catch. I waited for the right moment  when they reached the lit area and when the oar touched the water, the ripple was formed adding an element to the frame. I also loved the early morning cool tone to this scene.

Day Breakers 

In the alleys of Varanasi in India, the kid was going to school when she suddenly turned around to check if her mom was out of danger from the bull. The light, smoke and the decisive moment where the kid turned around was so wonderful. Anticipating such moments on the streets is what we do waiting for hours hoping something would happen. To be at the right time to click when it happens, is a great feeling.

I have always been fascinated by how much light plays an important role in moulding the characters in our photos. In my wanderings on the streets, whenever I come across a play of light and shadows, I always spend a lot of time there, waiting for the right subjects to enter the frame and create a story from it.

In my street photography approach, I always look for the oddities in our everyday lives. During my shoot at this location in Sharjah, UAE, I saw the buildings and the reflection which was very interesting. However what else could I add to this frame to keep my viewers engaged and to find something extraordinary. Then to my luck, these birds came and I included only two of them inside the frame to connect with the duality of the structures vs life. For me it was quite amusing to see that the buildings were placed 2 together just like the 2 birds. Hence I named it TWINS.

The Kite Festival in Dubai is a very exciting event where different shapes and sizes of Kites will be flown at the main beaches. Participants from around the world will compete for this event. I loved the silhouette formation of the people with the inclusion of the kites on the sky, was very dramatic moment for me.
