Return
2021
Returns is an offline-first PWA and an interactive SVG. It combines the joy of interaction, digital color and minimalist sculpture with the potential of a long running, continuously unique visual. Based on “Shipping” from 2016, it is inspired by Anne Truitt, Ugo Rondinone, Imi Knoebel, Kelly Ellsworth and many others.
Recursive subdivision based on "returns", inspired by Imi Knoebel. (German painter and sculptor known for his contributions to and shaping of 20th century Minimalist abstract art.)

Gerhard
2022
Gerhard is a collaboration of Richard Nadler and Leander Herzog on fxhash. A generative animation based on multiple layers of color and data, mixed, moved and painted over in realtime. Some fragments stick to the canvas while others get discarded to leave the existing layers visible, allowing a complex surface to emerge and build up over time. Richard Nadler created the textures to control composition and color. Leander Herzog created the code for the interplay between the layers, motion and interactions. Both artists use different tools and are not aware of the details of each others process, meeting through the interface of pixels. This collaboration is enabled by twitter and fxhash, as the generative art community continues to explore abstraction in summer 2022 – while extreme temperatures, wildfires, ongoing conflicts and volatile markets continue to escalate.
Richter is the second collaboration of Richard Nadler and Leander Herzog, following their first project called Gerhard. A generative animation based on multiple layers of color and data, mixed, moved and painted over in realtime. Some fragments stick to the canvas while others get discarded to leave the existing layers visible, allowing a complex surface to emerge and build up over time.

Very Large Array
2022
Very Large Array is a generative token by Leander Herzog. It creates one very large array to generate both visuals and audio. Made with javascript, webgl and the web audio api.
DOM1
2023
DOM1 explores ratios, rhythm and repetition as compositional methods. The title refers to the Document Object Model, the main material of contemporary interfaces and digital infrastructure. An infinite document is composed from DIVs, the most basic HTML element – the brick of the internet - and animated by generative audio. Click to excute the code.
Agglo
2022
Agglo delves into the intricate balance between randomness and repetition, constructing and evolving modules over time on a minimalist canvas.

Agglo
2023
Agglo delves into the intricate balance between randomness and repetition, constructing and evolving modules over time on a minimalist canvas. Inspired by weaving and printing techniques, it translates linear messages into captivating two-dimensional images, each emerging gradually from the algorithmic process.
With a focus on the essential grid, the exploration maintains clarity by sidestepping geometric complexities, resulting in a captivating interplay where emergence and transformation from one-dimensional to two-dimensional remain at the heart of Herzog's creative endeavor.
These three Agglos, minted by the same account, synchronize their motion.

Heatsink
2023
Heatsink is a realtime animation, built with javascript and WebGL. It explores ratios, rhythm and repetition as compositional method. It is based on “DOM1”, its conceptual predecessor that’s built on the browser’s document object model, but elevates the monochrome minimalism to a colorful 3d space. Heatsink is an ongoing search for style - to develop distinct proportions and relations - beyond color palettes or formal patterns.
Inspired by minimalist sculpture, modernist architecture and contemporary digital artists, such as Donald Judd, Carl Andre, Walter de Maria, Agnes Martin, Daniel Buren, Anne Truitt, Imi Knöbel, Ludwig Mies van der Rohe and Le corbusier, Josef Müller-Brockmann, Wolfgang Weingart, Ryoji Ideka, and Kjetil Golid.
1,000 true fans
2023
1,000 True Fans refers to an essay by Kevin Kelly from 2008, considering how the internet impacts dynamics between creators and audiences. Blockchain and social media add a new angle to the same question: What is the size of an audience that makes an artistic practice sustainable?
DOM2
2024
DOM2 explores ratios, rhythm and repetition as compositional methods. The title refers to the Document Object Model, the main material of contemporary interfaces and digital infrastructure. An infinite document is composed from basic HTML elements and animated by generative audio. It is a realtime interaction of two programs: Visuals by Leander Herzog and audio by Milian Mori.
Infinite Garden
2025
Infinite Garden invites the audience to root for blockchain not merely as a transactional framework but as an expressive medium with distinct properties for generative art. Presented in partnership with Shape, and supported by OpenSea. 50% of the proceeds are donated to Protocol Guild, a collective funding mechanism for Ethereum core protocol maintainers.
DOM3
2025
Herzog's visuals have evolved from the minimalist rectangles of DOM1 through DOM2's refined structures to DOM3's gradient-based compositions that respond in real-time to Mori's algorithmically generated soundscapes. The shared JavaScript context enables unprecedented precision: animations don't merely react to audio analysis but know the composition's future structure. A visual sequence can begin now and land perfectly on a beat that will occur 7.5 seconds later. The work increasingly visualises its own structure, exposing the rhythmic patterns that drive both sound and image generation.
