Maps of Life is a generative cartographic experiment inspired by John Conway's Game of Life. The Game of Life is a zero-player game, its evolution is determined by its initial state, requiring no further input.
Maps of Life is a generative-player game, an algorithm that creates an initial random configuration and a collector that observes how the configuration evolves. (Only an automatic mind could name towns with Butterfly names). Each mint produces a distinctly unique cartographic representation of an ideal town, with different color palettes, scales, and coordinates. A beautiful animation from the town's random birth to a stopped moment in time.
Maps of Life, in short: the built environment has a life of its own. Enjoy the view.
